Cultural tips for Thailand
There are just a few quick tips to make sure you feel at home while you travelling in Thailand and not to inadvertently offend anyone.Be respectful of their religion, be modest, be ready to take your shoes off to go into temples for example. Avoid making jokes about the Thai royle family. Do not just watch your manners watch your feet – it is rude to put them up or point them at someone and be particularly respectful of the monks. If you are female be careful not to brush against their robes, even accidentally.
Sun block and mosquito repellent are both an absolute must!
Around every corner away from the main tourist destinations you will find cruelty to animals. Baby elephants chained up and left to die with no food and water as they cannot afford to let them eat their crops, cats locked in cages and hidden behind trees and left to die...life has very little meaning to many thais. Even the main tourist attraction of elephant trekking is cruel with sores on elephants and cruel manhouts who beat the elephants if they are to tired or ill or even to old to work. One elephant trek does not even take the seats off the elephants and you will often see the elephants feet chained together- very cruel and distressing for the animal.

Waterproofs – just in case you are going to be there in the wet season.
Lightweight clothing – it is hot and sunny in a lot of places for most of the year so shorts and t-shirts will be the staple. Having said that, the north of the country gets a little chilly in the winter and you'd be wise to bring a couple of warm things. Flips flops or thongs are comfortable, cool and versatile. If you are going trekking in the jungle you’ll need some sturdy boots.
